Programme 2: would like… would rather

Pomocí would like zdvořile vyjadřujete přání. Would rather znamená, že byste radši něco jiného.

MAN: Let’s go to the cinema tonight. I’d like to see that film everyone keeps talking about.
WOMAN: Maybe another time? I’d rather spend the evening somewhere nice and romantic. That Italian restaurant perhaps?

would like - rád bych
would rather - radši bych
everyone keeps talking - všichni pořád mluví
spend the evening - strávit večer
maybe another time? - možná někdy jindy
I’d - zkrácená hovorová forma - I would

Po I would následuje sloveso v přítomném čase, po I would rather/ I’d rather můžete občas zaslechnout i sloveso v čase minulém – i když se vlastně jedná o budoucnost: I’d rather we went to a restaurant tonight.
