Please note we will now be performing Haydn's Cello Concerto in C, not his Cello Concerto in D. Unfortunately, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker is indisposed and no longer able to join us on Wednesday. We are delighted that Bruno Philippe will step in to perform Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C and make his BBC Philharmonic Orchestra debut.
Elegant and virtuosic, Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major is a celebrated masterwork.
Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 'Spring' arrives as a burst of fresh lush harmonies and optimism. Spring is inspired by the German poet Adolf Böttger’s poem, Frühlingsgedicht, which portrays nature as a symbol of reawakening and hope.
