A Roadmap for the Pacific
Can Fiji's leaders work together to shape a path for the country's future in the face of growing outside influences and an existential climate crisis?
An archipelago of more than 300 islands, populated by more than 900,000 people - Fiji is the financial and technology hub for the Pacific Islands nations. The region supplies more than a third of the world's tuna catch each year, and its waters allow the US shipping access to Asia. But the Pacific Islands are under strain, as a climate emergency threatens traditional ways of living, and geopolitical tensions weigh on relationships between neighbours and stakeholders. Can its leaders work together to shape a path for the future, in the face of growing outside influences and an existential climate crisis?
