Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut, Dictations - The Heart of the Sea, and Unsung Songs
Actor Juliet Cadzow and writer and director Morag Fullarton talk about Perth Theatre's Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut, based on the iconic 1950 Hollywood film.
Sunset Boulevard: The Backstage Cut is on at Perth Theatre from next week. It’s a new production inspired by the original 1950 film Sunset Boulevard, the story of a wealthy, egotistical, faded star Norma Desmond, desperate to ‘return to the millions of fans she deserted’, and a young down-on-his-luck writer who sees an opportunity to exploit the situation. The Backstage Cut is written and directed by the award-winning Morag Fullarton, and leading the cast as Hollywood icon Norma Desmond is acclaimed Scottish stage and screen actress Juliet Cadzow. Morag and Juliet join Len to tell her more.
Mele Broomes, an award-winning artist, talks about Dictations - The Heart of the Sea, a show that features dance and music, and looks at the way family and community are intimately carried with us over distance and time.
And Len chats to double bass player David Bowden, who is best known for his work with Scottish jazz pianist Fergus McCreadie's multi-award-winning trio. Their album Forest Floor was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Award. David himself has previously been a winner of the BBC Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year, and an album made with his jazz fusion group Mezcla was nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year. But now the Glasgow-based musician has decided to step into the limelight on his own, taking his double bass front and centre of the stage with his most recent album, Unsung Songs.
