Music, chat and Jeff Goldblum

Mark and Stuart present a feast of great music and Hollywood actor and musician Jeff Goldblum shares his ‘First, Last and Everything’ and chats about his new album and tour

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.

Today, they hear from Hollywood actor and musician Jeff Goldblum who shares his ‘First, Last and Everything’ - that’s his first record, the record he's been enjoying most recently and the record that means ‘everything’ to him.

Famed for his starring roles in blockbuster movies including Jurassic Park, Independence Day and Wicked, Jeff has enjoyed a hugely successful acting career in film, TV and theatre spanning six decades. He is also a longtime pianist and jazz music fan, and formed his own jazz band 'The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra' thirty years ago. In between his acting commitments he has performed with the band across the United States and further afield.

Jeff tells Mark and Stuart about how he got into jazz as a child taking piano lessons, and how years later he formed The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. He talks about the band's collaborations with singers including Laufey and his Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Jeff also chats to Mark and Stuart about the band's forthcoming new album and UK tour and describes how music forms part of his daily routine. Plus, they discuss the whereabouts of a giant Jeff Goldblum statue.

Also on the show... long-running feature ‘The Chain’, which gives listeners the chance to pick a track that links in some way to the last. The list now contains over 8,700 songs.

With a selection of music old and new to get the weekend started.

Produced in Salford by Audio Always for BBC Radio 6 Music.
