Colombian marimba live with Nidia Góngora

Kathryn Tickell presents an extract from Nidia Góngora’s set at the Barbican and picks music from Benin, Slovakia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kathryn Tickell shares an excerpt of a recent live performance of Colombian singer-songwriter Nidia Góngora recorded at Barbican as part of La Linea, London’s Latin Music Festival. Nidia is known for being the lead singer of Canalón de Timbiquí, a traditional group heading from the Pacific coast of Colombia; in 2025, she released her latest solo album Pacífico Maravilla.

Elsewhere in the show, Kathryn plays a resurfaced single from Benin’s T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, a track from a vocal sextet from Slovakia called Neha!, and Carnatic music from the Mandolin Sisters.
