Debussy and Liszt from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
Al Ryan introduces Debussy & Liszt from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, plus Beethoven from the Chaos Quartet and pianist Julius Asal playing Bartok & Schumann.
Al Ryan brings you another afternoon of live music and specially recorded performances from around the UK. In today’s programme, there’s more from the Barber Series of Lunchtime Concerts at the University of Birmingham, featuring two Radio 3 New Generation Artists: the pianist Julius Asal performing Bartok & Schumann, and flautist Elizaveta Ivanova with a delightful sonata by the Georgian composer Otar Taktakishvili.
You can also hear more recent live recordings from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – this afternoon, it’s Debussy’s Prélude à l'Après-midi d'un faune and Liszt's contemplative and introspective tone poem Orpheus. And we’ll also hear from another of Radio 3’s current crop of New Generation Artists – clarinettist Oleg Shebeta-Dragan who plays a set of Fantasy Pieces by Schumann.
