Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

Mark Forrest brings you his final afternoon this week of live music and specially recorded performances from around the UK and abroad. We have one last visit to the Barber Series of Lunchtime Concerts at the University of Birmingham, where the Chaos Quartet plays a new work by Errollyn Wallen, and we hear from current Radio 3 New Generation Artists - flautist Elizaveta Ivanova, who plays Tchaikovsky, and pianist Julius Asal, who gives the world premiere of a new commission by Lera Auerbach.

There's one more recent live recording from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra too. This afternoon, it’s Berlioz’s emotional and often psychedelic autobiographical Symphonie Fantastique. And we’ll also hear from another of Radio 3’s current crop of New Generation Artists – clarinettist Oleg Shebeta-Dragan, who plays a Carpathian Rhapsody by his fellow Ukrainian, the composer Myroslav Skoryk.
