Women’s Cricket v Tennis Special
Enid Bakewell MBE recalls overcoming prejudice and scoring a century in the first Women’s Cricket World Cup in 1973 as tennis stars face cricket legends in a special episode.
To celebrate a summer of women’s sport, Christina Trevanion captains a contest of cricket versus tennis! Former British number ones, Jo Durie and Samantha Smith are Team Tennis and they take on Team Cricket, made up of trailblazing broadcaster Alison Mitchell and cricketing all-rounder and commentator Melissa Story.
Coached by antiques experts Ben Cooper and Danny Sebastian, the teams are quick off the baseline to bag some bargains at a bustling antiques fair in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. The reds plan to smash their sporting challenge with what Ben identifies as ship’s rudder, but it doesn’t float their boat. Later, Sam picks up the pace when she spots a vintage pedometer. Over with the cricketing blues, a reel-to-reel tape player takes Alison back to her early broadcasting days, and at another stall, they consider whether to convert a rugby ball-shaped decanter into a sale.
