Joy Guidry’s 4/4

Soweto Kinch is back with an hour of the best in jazz, and American bassoonist and composer Joy Guidry chooses four of her all-time favourite records.

This week, Soweto welcomes American bassoonist and composer Joy Guidry as his 4/4 guest. She is an acclaimed musician and performance artist whose work combines her avant-garde classical training with experimental electronic, ambient music, and spiritual jazz. Born in Houston, Texas, she first became interested in music through her exposure to gospel music at church and has a deep love of storytelling.

From Monday to Thursday, Joy is celebrating some of her most treasured albums on 4/4. To begin the week, she picks an icon of spiritual jazz.
Also in the programme there’s music from Charles Lloyd, Shabaka and Emma Smith.

‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades.
