Graduate job vacancies in the UK have fallen to their lowest level since records began a decade ago. Recruitment site Adzuna says just 8,383 graduate jobs were advertised in July, down 45% on last year, at the same time as a record number of young people prepare to start university.
Earlier this year Wales paused new paramedic degree courses at Swansea and Wrexham for 2026/27 because there weren’t enough job opportunities for newly qualified paramedics. Is university still worth it in 2026? How did you get into the world of work, and did having a degree help you?

Actor Richard E Grant has been talking about how the death of his wife changed some of his friendships.
His wife Joan died in 2021, eight months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Grant says some friends kept their distance afterwards because they didn’t know what to say or feared an awkward conversation and he has now permanently “edited” those people out of his life.
