Protecting Rural Wales

This week on Country Focus, we're looking at the issue of the bluetongue virus and vaccination.

We begin on Ifan's farm in the uplands of north Ceredigion, where he farms sheep and beef cattle alongside his father and brother on neighbouring farms. With confirmed cases of bluetongue continuing to increase and spread, Ifan has taken the decision to vaccinate his cattle, and we'll hear more about that on the programme.

To find out more about the virus and how vaccination works, Lois Cernyw spoke to Dr Sioned Timothy, Technical Services Manager for Livestock with pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim.

Also on this week's programme, as part of National Rural Crime Action Week, Sara Elan Jones speaks to Inspector Matthew Howells of Dyfed-Powys Police about some of the challenges facing rural communities across Wales.
