Cannes is an annual invitational film festival showcasing new films of all genres globally. The Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) is the festival's top award. Between 1939 to 1954 and then 1964-1975, it was known as the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film. The second-place film now receives the Grand Prix.
