Selina Thompson Remembers... Salt
Performance artist Selina Thompson looks back on the 2021 TV adaptation her award-winning one-woman show Salt.
Described as 'a long journey backwards to go forwards', Selina Thompson’s one-woman show Salt premiered in 2016. It quickly garnered awards and international success, and in 2021 it was adapted for TV - part drama, part documentary.
Selina tells us about the background to the piece and the adaptations needed to create something for television that retained the power of the stage play. She discusses the influences behind the show and the need to engage the audience as part of the ritual. She also relates the consequences of performing something so physically and emotionally draining and the influence it had on the work that followed. And she talks about the continuing power the play still has - its themes and story as relevant now as ever.
