Beethoven's Sixth Symphony

BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Tianyi Lu are joined by violinist Thomas Mathias in Vaughan Williams' serenely lyrical and evocative work for solo violin and orchestra, The Lark Ascending. The Welsh harp player Alis Huws then joins the BBC NOW to give the World Premiere of Cameron Biles-Liddell's Nature's Dance, commissioned by BBC Radio 3.

After the interval, the concert continues with the pastoral theme in a performance of Beethoven's joyful and uplifting Sixth Symphony, his personal response to the countryside with each movement telling its own story.

Recorded earlier this month at St Asaph Cathedral as part of North Wales International Music Festival and presented by Verity Sharp.
