National Youth Choir of Scotland at 30

The National Youth Choir of Scotland marks its 30th anniversary in spectacular style with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and conductor Christopher Bell in a celebration of the power of collective music-making.

At the heart of the programme is Carl Orff’s 'Carmina Burana', one of the most thrilling and recognisable choral masterpieces of the twentieth century. Its vivid settings of medieval poems, crowned by the iconic 'O Fortuna', are matched by two works looking firmly to the future. Jay Capperauld’s 'The World', setting texts by Robert Louis Stevenson and Niall Campbell, receives its broadcast premiere, commissioned to mark this special anniversary, while Jonathan Dove’s 'The Passing of the Year' is heard in its newly orchestrated version for the first time in Scotland.
