Beethoven's Choral Symphony from Germany

Mark Forrest introduces an afternoon of great music including performances from the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and chamber music from across Bavaria.

Mark Forrest presents an afternoon of exceptional music-making from Germany, bringing together the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with chamber music and song from the Feldafing and Goldmund Festivals in Bavaria

The programme opens with a Haydn symphony performed by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck. Simon Rattle conducts the orchestra in Poulenc’s witty ballet suite Les Biches before returning with world class soloists to perform one of the most extraordinary works in the history of music, Beethoven Ninth Symphony, with which the orchestra and Bavarian Radio Chorus opened its current season, alongside a starry line-up of soloists.
From the the Goldmund Festival, tenor Julian Prégardien and pianist Anna Gebhardt perform Schumann’s much-loved song cycle Dichterliebe - 'A Poet's Love'. And pianist Richard Goode brings his distinctive insight and musicianship to Beethoven’s final piano sonata.
