Byron Wallen’s Mixtape

As this year's London Jazz Festival arrives at its second weekend, Verity Sharp shares an exclusive Late Junction mixtape from jazz trumpeter and 2026 festival artist Byron Wallen.

Verity Sharp presents a mixtape from British jazz innovator Byron Wallen, who leads a line-up of standout UK jazz figures in ‘a vivid celebration of the British scene’s past present and future’ as part of this year's London Jazz Festival. The night takes at the Barbican and marks the tenth birthday of Church of Sound, an East London jazz night that has been key to the development of the music over the past decade. A trumpeter whose work explores and integrates a range of global musics and playing styles, Byron shares favourite tracks and music by some of his key influences in his exclusive Late Junction mixtape.

Elsewhere, Verity shares quaint guitar miniatures from Tara Cunningham, a new defiant project from arch-experimentalist Felicia Chen (a.k.a Dis Fig) and the joyful off-beat clattering to be found on Hans P. Kjorstad's most recent effort, Inn.
