We’re heading to Brooklyn for this week’s Trunk of Funk, as Big Crown Records celebrates ten years in business.
We’re heading to Brooklyn for this week’s Trunk of Funk, as Big Crown Records celebrates ten years in business. The label was set up in 2016 by musician and producer Leon Michels, a founding member of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Menahan Street Band, and DJ and record collector Danny Akalepse, who’d worked together at Truth & Soul Records. Over the past decade it’s become home to some of the finest modern soul around, from Lady Wray, Lee Fields and Bobby Oroza to El Michels Affair. Expect a serious slice of Brooklyn soul as Big Crown marks its tenth birthday with a very special Trunk of Funk.
