Seamus Fogarty’s Listening Chair

Elizabeth Alker shares genre-defying music; and Irish singer Seamus Fogarty takes to the Unclassified listening chair to choose a track that transports him elsewhere.

Elizabeth Alker welcomes Irish ‘alt-folk alchemist’ Seamus Fogarty into the Unclassified Listening Chair to share a track that transports him elsewhere. Seamus’s music inhabits a sonic space in which his playful and moving approach to storytelling is entwined with fragmentary electronics, drones and field recordings to fantastic effect. His latest album, the much admired Ships, includes sometimes-funny, sometimes-poignant vignettes of everything from love and loss to nationalism and DIY coffins. Alongside his choice of track, Elizabeth plays the latest sounds from today's most exciting genre-defying composers.
