Britain in the 1980s is not a good place to be disabled. Discrimination is legal, and rampant. Disabled people are seen as a pitiful burden on society.

So when ITV launches its 27 hour long ‘Telethon’ fundraising extravaganza for the disabled, Barbara Lisicki and her partner Alan Holdsworth, see an opportunity to take a stand.
