Court threat over Corbyn leadership

The lawyer hired to challenge any attempts to keep Jeremy Corbyn from standing in the Labour leadership contest says the party's rules are "crystal clear".

Martin Howe was engaged by a Unite union official who sits on Labour's National Executive Committee, which is meeting to discuss whether Mr Corbyn needs the nominations of 51 MPs or MEPs to stand.

Former Labour general secretary Ray Collins, who drafted the current leadership rules, told the World At One that Mr Corbyn, like any other candidate, needed those nominations.

Mr Howe is threatening "injunctive action" if Mr Corbyn's name does not automatically go forward as a candidate. He spoke to presenter Edward Stourton.
