50 years on: Cambridgeshire's supersonic legacy

21 January 1976: Concorde took to the skies on its maiden commercial flight.

It was the world's first supersonic airliner, flying at speeds faster than a rifle bullet.

Its iconic nose cone was designed in Cambridge by Marshall Aerospace.

A Concorde test aircraft housed at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford played a vital role in the success of the first commercial flight.
