Writer Michael Rosen: ‘I love all bookshops, but a shoe shop for big feet is my favourite’

As he turns 80, we visit when the children’s author became a Listed Londoner in 2013.

Michael Rosen was born into a Jewish family in 1946. After graduating from the University of Oxford, he became a graduate trainee at the BBC, working as a presenter and scriptwriter on BBC Schools Television.

It was in 1974 that his first book of poetry for children was published and since then he’s written more than 200 books for children and adults. Arguably the most famous of his works, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, was published in 1989.

Whether it’s for his books, viral YouTube videos, or his tireless support for children’s literacy and the NHS, Michael has been a household name for decades. He is about to celebrate his 80th birthday.

Robert Elms found out about Michael Rosen’s favourite haunts, memories and pet hates in 2014.
