Ten years on from giving my dad a kidney
In April 2016, David Smith was seriously ill with kidney failure and facing dialysis, when his son Lewis stepped forward to become a living donor. Now ten years on, they’re celebrating their “kidneyversary” together with a family trip to Valencia and using the moment to shine a light on how powerful living organ donation can be. David and Lewis spoke to Rima Ahmed about that extraordinary decision, what the past decade has meant to them as father and son, and why they’re encouraging others to consider giving the gift of life.
