Lincoln Castle was built in 1068 by William the Conqueror, just two years after his victory at the battle of Hastings.
In its almost 1000-year existence the castle has been a place of battles and sieges, heroes and heroines, tragic royal love stories, crime and punishment, and nowadays tourism and entertainment.
