Danny O'Donoghue

The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue joins Vernon to choose ten songs that have soundtracked his life, including U2, Don McLean, The Police and Bob Dylan. In a hilarious and at times unexpectedly emotional conversation, Danny recalls his time growing up in Ireland and his pre- Script music career as a part of Irish boyband Moytown. This led them to spending around 10 years in America, with his best friend, and fellow songwriter and producer Mark Sheenan. This consequently led them to being signed and beginning their career as The Script but not before his success of songwriting for the likes of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.. With a funny story on how Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy ended up waking up hungover in his childhood bath. Danny also discusses with Vernon the loss of his parents, and how this loss has affected him from his Dad never being able to see his success. He also pays tribute to his best friend and bandmate Mark Sheehan following his passing in 2023, and how “Every great song is revealing a truth” and a lot of the music he wrote expressing these losses has reframed his mind.

The Script released their self-titled debut album in 2008, topping the UK and Ireland charts, and featuring early hits like Breakeven and The Man Who Can't Be Moved. To date they have released seven albums, with six of them hitting #1 in the UK, selling over 20 million records worldwide. Away from the band Danny has also been a coach on two series of The Voice UK. The Script's eighth album The User's Guide To Being Human comes out in August 2026 and the band are playing Radio 2 In The Park in Stirling in September.
