Woman calls for law change after partner's death

The family of a man who died in Ashby after being struck by a car, are calling for a change in the law when it comes to reporting road collisions.

Tommy Hunter was hit by a car on Burton Road near Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire as he walked home in the early hours of 10 December 2023. It was more than 24 hours before his body was found in a roadside hedge.

The man police investigated, Brandon Beesla, 29, said he did not stop because he believed he had hit a badger. He later admitted driving a vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury on the night Tommy went missing. He was fined £2,000 and banned from driving for 12 months.

Tommy's partner Chloe Mefford told BBC Leicester's Jo Hayward why she wants a change in the law, and road traffic law expert Steven Farmer spoke to BBC Leicester's Ady Dayman.
