Southport Pier: The Road to Reopening
What’s happening to Southport Pier, and when could visitors return?
Last year it was announced that its historic pier would be given 20 million pounds' worth of funding to reopen it.
It was closed in December 2022 following concerns over the condition of the Grade II listed structure, and locals campaigned to get it reopened...
Well, work began earlier this year, and various parts of the structure have been taken down, and the next stage is to put in steel replacements.
The work's being carried out by Sefton Council's main contractor, AE Yates and Dale Cunliffe the Project Manager, provides an update on the restoration work.
