Stop being a terrible tourist

Discover the people and the projects trying to make the world a better place

We live in an age of global mass tourism. Last year, the UN estimates 1.5 billion people travelled to another country. While many countries depend on tourism for income and employment, it can come at a significant environmental and social cost, straining local services and driving up prices.

We take a tour of Dubrovnik in Croatia, which has the highest tourist to local ratio in Europe, to see how the city is using perks and protocols to keep locals happy and visitors moving. And we paddle and cycle around Copenhagen to discover how rewarding eco-friendly actions is changing tourist behaviour.
