Wake up with BBC Sounds. Routines are a great way to fit BBC content into your daily activities. Wake up at the same time each day to your favourite radio station, catch up with the news at lunchtime, or hear the latest episode of your favourite podcast when you say a specific phrase.
Ready-made routines to try
Tune in to morning radio using these routines…
- 6:00am – Wake up to Radio 4 [add this routine]
- 6:30am - Wake up to Radio 2 [add this routine]
- 7:30am - Wake up to Radio 1 [add this routine]
You can customise each of these routines when you add them.
How to use these routines...
- On a mobile phone, tap ‘Add this routine’. On any other device, click ‘Add this routine’, then use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code that appears on screen.
- The Alexa app will open. Tap the ‘View routine’ button.
- Confirm the actions when prompted.
- Customise it if you want to.
- Select the device you want the content to play from, then tap ‘Save’.

How to set up your own BBC routines
- Open the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device.
- Tap the three horizontal lines in the bottom navigation bar.
- Tap ‘Routines’.
- Tap ‘+’ in the top right-hand corner.
- Name your routine.
- Tap ‘Add an event’ (when do you want the routine to run?). The trigger can be a time, or something you say.
- Tap ‘Add an action’ (what do you want Alexa to do when the routine runs?). Choose the action type ‘Customised’, and type in what you’d like to happen, for example, “Play Radio 2”, “Play BBC News”, or “Play All Day Chill Mix”.
- Tap ‘Save’.
