Music Matters

Available for 27 days

Clive Myrie is in conversation with fellow journalists about the music they’ve heard whilst reporting from the front line. With his own extensive experience of covering wars, and his personal love of opera and jazz, Clive and Steve Rosenberg share stories to reveal something of the power and significance of music when working in extreme conflict situations. BBC journalist Steve Rosenberg has been the BBC’s Moscow correspondent since 2003, except for being Berlin correspondent between 2006 and 2010. In 2022, he became the BBC News Russian editor. Here Steve recalls the music that has accompanied his working life: Romance from Georgy Sviridov’s The Snowstorm. The State Academic Large Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev. Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits. Bach’s Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland arranged by Wilhelm Kempff, played by Angela Hewitt. Kupalinka by Uladzimier Teraŭski, played by violinist Caroline Adomeit and pianist Julian Riem. Melody, from The High Pass by Myroslav Skoryk. The Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Hobart Earle. Valentina’s Song by Steve Rosenberg performed by the BBC Singers conducted by David Hill. Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto, 3rd Movement. Evgeny Kissin with the London Symphony Orchestra. Producer: Rosie Boulton A Must Try Softer Production
