Moya Brennan

Stephen McCauley

Available for 29 days

Legendary Irish singer Moya Brennan died this week at the age of 73. Moya’s impact on Irish music was seismic. Along with Clannad, she helped to shape a new sound world for Irish music, one which saw the adaptation of Irish traditional song blended with haunting, tightly layered Beach Boys-esque harmonies, electronics and the Irish language. Her voice was it’s signature sound. The result was music that felt intensely visual and evoked the landscapes of Co Donegal. In this episode, Stephen replays an interview he did with Moya Brennan in 2024 in which she discusses the timeless nature of Clannad’s music, the construction of their iconic “Theme From Harry’s Game” and her collaboration with production duo Elma Orkestra and Ryan Vail.
