Ricky Reel: A family's 30 year fight for answers
Asian Network TrendingAvailable for 34 days
In 1997, 20-year-old British Asian student Ricky Reel disappeared after a racist attack during a night out with friends in London. A week later, his body was found in the River Thames. Police called his death a tragic accident, but his family always believed he was murdered and that crucial evidence was overlooked. For nearly three decades, Ricky’s mum Sukhdev and his sister Tish have campaigned for answers, becoming part of wider conversations around racism, policing and justice in Britain. But years after Ricky’s death, the family discovered something else. While grieving their son and brother, and fighting for justice, they had themselves been placed under police surveillance. They're now involved in an ongoing public inquiry examining the tactics used by undercover police. The biggest stories affecting Asian Network listeners across the UK. With Amber Haque. Produced in Birmingham by Samsaara Productions for BBC Asian Network.
