Becky Gilmour, Chris McAuley and Darkness into Light

Saturday with John Toal

Available for 28 days

Becky Gilmour from Banbridge phones in just moments after completing her latest endurance feat - circling Dublin’s Spire as many times as possible in 24 hours. This follows her extraordinary challenges in recent months, including skateboarding the entire Wild Atlantic Way and paddle boarding 1,000 miles across Ireland, all to raise awareness for mental health. John attends a Darkness into Light Walk in Carryduff. One of the hundreds of walks taking place across Ireland and beyond earlier this morning. Each walk begins in darkness and ends at sunrise and is a powerful symbol of hope for anyone affected by mental health struggles or bereavement through suicide. He also visits the Fairy Glen near Rostrevor to meet musician Brona McVittie, whose ethereal contemporary folk music draws deeply on landscape and lore. Her new single 'The Stolen Child' is inspired by the words of WB Yeats, accompanied by a beautifully crafted book exploring fairies, the waters, and the wild. There’s live music in the studio from King Cedar who performs his brand new single 'Falling By the Wayside' and even gives a little demonstration on how to play the wine glass. Writer and producer Chris McAuley, originally from Broughshane, joins us to discuss his extraordinary career in horror and science fiction. Chris is the co-creator of the StokerVerse with Dacre Stoker and has contributed to iconic franchises including Doctor Who, Terminator, and Star Trek. We also celebrate 17 year old Niamh Noade from South Armagh, who will be appearing in the Britain’s Got Talent semi final this evening. Niamh has performed many times over the years on Saturday with John Toal, harp in hand, and her proud dad Mal calls in straight off the plane to share the excitement. And in the kitchen, Paula McIntyre prepares a delicious Breton shortcake with honey cream and rhubarb.
