The BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Kevin John Edusei perform the first of two concerts at the Aldeburgh festival. Beginning with John Adams's rip-roaring Short Ride in a Fast Machine, the concert will be quickly transported to a world premiere by Tansy Davies; her percussion concerto, Earthworks. Davies wrote the work for star percussionist, Colin Currie, and it describes giant ancient land art and the terrain it inhabits. The concert concludes with Shostakovich's 10th Symphony, an immensely powerful work that contains some of the most devastating music that Shostakovich wrote. Presented live from Snape Maltings by Alexandra Humphreys.
