Elena Urioste and Tom Poster live at Wigmore Hall

Classical Live

Available for 29 days

Linton Stephens showcases superb performances from the UK and beyond. Our week on Classical Live begins with a live concert from Wigmore Hall in London, where violinist Elena Urioste and pianist Tom Poster perform sonatas by Dora Pejačević and Johannes Brahms, as well as a lilting nocturne by Dvorak. We’ll also be visiting festivals in Denmark and Switzerland this week. Today, we’ll hear a Beethoven song-cycle and cello meditations by Leonard Bernstein. There’ll be contributions from the BBC orchestras throughout the week, too. As Radio 3 celebrates Black British composers and artists, Samantha Ege joins the BBC Philharmonic at 2pm for a performance of Avril Coleridge-Taylor’s Piano Concerto. And to bring the programme to a close, George Jackson conducts the Ulster Orchestra in Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony. We’ll also hear highlights from a recent studio recording by the Bellot Ensemble, Radio 3’s current New Generation Baroque Ensemble. 1pm Live from Wigmore Hall, London. Presented by Hannah French.
