What's behind Essex's homelessness crisis?

Need To Know Essex

Available for over a year

Charities have warned that homelessness in Essex is approaching crisis point unless action is taken. An estimated 10,000 people across the county are homeless, with Basildon frequently recording some of the highest rates in the East of England. Around one in 94 people in the town are either sleeping rough or living in temporary accommodation, with up to 60 people sleeping rough on a single night in Southend. So what's driving the rise in homelessness in Essex, and what can be done to tackle it? Picture credit: coldsnowstorm/Getty Images.
