The Scandalous Love Life of Lord Nelson & Emma Hamilton

Available for over a year

Lord Nelson is remembered as one of history's greatest military commanders. His victories at the Battle of the Nile, the Battle of Copenhagen and the Battle of Trafalgar cemented his legendary status, as did his dramatic death mid-battle. But there's another side to Nelson's story: his extraordinary love affair with Emma Hamilton. Today, Kate explores the scandalous relationship between Britain's greatest naval hero and his famous mistress, and asks how their spouses reacted to their very open relationship. Kate is joined by History Hit's very own Dan Snow! This episode was edited by Natasha Hughes. The producer was Sophie Gee. The senior producer was Freddy Chick. All music from Epidemic Sounds. Betwixt the Sheets: History of Sex, Scandal & Society is a History Hit podcast.
