When the sea took fathers, Hull stepped in

Hidden East Yorkshire

Available for over a year

For more than 200 years, the Sailors' Children's Society has supported families affected by loss at sea. Founded in Hull in 1821, it grew from a mission for seafarers into a charity caring for generations of children and families. From its Newland Estate in Hull to its work across the UK, the charity provided care, stability and opportunity for thousands of children. Today, its legacy lives on through the families, communities and generations it continues to support. Produced and edited by Gill Sennett. Picture credit: Hull History Centre.
