French student protests

Newsday

Available for 29 days

More than four hundred schools across France will be closed today, with classes taught remotely, as student demonstrations are expected to continue. On Thursday police made two thousand arrests as students blockaded schools to complain about overcrowded classrooms and run-down facilities. A death row inmate set to be the first woman to be executed in Tennessee for more than 200 years is receiving life-saving medical care in a hospital in Nashville after she survived two attempts by Tennessee to execute her via lethal injection. And the European Union has stopped this year's budget support to the country. The move was announced by Dutch Justice Minister David van Weel over a dispute in the country’s handling of a convicted Dutch drug trafficker Jos Leijdekkers, known as “Bolle Jos”.
