Mike Sanderson from the Westmorland NFU
Mike Sanderson from the Westmorland NFU
Westmorland NFU man and author of the excellent ‘Yows and Cows’ Mike Sanderson has worked with sheep all his life.

He reckons they’re real personalities and that each different breed has its own distinguishing character traits.

And if you ask him whether sheep are stupid he’ll give you a very stern look and tell you not to be so daft!

Listen to Mike describingthe different personalities of different breeds of sheep

Sheepy shenanigans in the Westmorland Gazette
Ever seen a tap dancing sheep? Or an evil looking sheep at the controls of a large tank?

If not you haven’t been getting your fix of Colin Shelbourn the Windermere based cartoonist who finds that sheep just keep on appearing on bits of paper in his studio.

Colin at work in his studio
Colin at work in his studio

Colin does the weekly front page cartoon for the Westmorland Gazette and finds that sheep can be a good vehicle for all kinds of ideas.

There’s something deliciously surreal about two small determined looking Herddales (explanation later!) commenting on South Lakeland’s Council Tax rates, or Kendal’s one-way system.

Herddales? You might not have Herd (geddit?) of them.

Hear Colin explain the curious Herddale breed and talk about his cartoons.
