The second storm in two days has brought wet and windy weather to the UK, causing travel disruption and event cancellations.

Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England are bracing for the worst of Storm Boelo, with gusts of up to 80mph forecast.

Three yellow weather warnings are already in place for wind and rain, impacting areas from Scotland right down to southern England.

Another three warnings will kick in this evening from 21:00, including two more serious amber warnings for wind impacting Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. We've got full details on those here.

Halloween events have been cancelled in Scotland and Northern Ireland, a marathon has been called off in North Wales and Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside, north-west England, will be closed tomorrow.

National Rail has announced disruption on a number of lines, flights to and from Dublin Airport have been cancelled, and highway authorities are urging drivers to take particular care and avoid non-essential journeys.

A number of power cuts in the Glasgow and Edinburgh areas have already been reported to SP Energy Networks, while power outages continue to affect large parts of south-west England following Friday's Storm Austen.

  2. Could we see three storms in a row?published at 17:53 BST

Map of globe showing areas of low pressure

Storm Boelo follows hot on the heels of Storm Austen, but forecasts also show the potential for yet another deep area of low pressure to arrive later on Monday and into Tuesday.

It's too early to say if this one will be named, but it looks likely to follow a similar track to Boelo, with the strongest winds focused towards the north of the UK.

A succession of storms is perhaps not as unusual as you think.

When you have a strong jet stream roaring across the Atlantic as we do right now, areas of low pressure can easily be developed and steered towards the UK in quick succession.

In February 2022 three named storms had big impacts in Northern Ireland - Eunice, Dudley and Franklin.

A fourth storm is looking unlikely though as our weather quietens down through the week.

The Arborist cafe, just outside of Truro in Cornwall, has been welcoming people who do not have power in their homes.

"We do this for the storms now, we did it in Storm Goretti," says co-owner Louise Martin.

"You can help yourself to tea and coffee, bring a book, we've got games here...and you can charge your phones and devices, and if you want, bring flasks and things to fill up with hot water."

Cafe visitor Julie Le Masurier describes it as a "brilliant surprise" and a "lovely, lovely thing to do for the community".

Her and Andrew Le Masurier say they have been without power since early Friday morning and are not expecting it to be back on until Sunday.

Map showing weather forecast across UK at 16:00 on Saturday

Strong winds and heavy rain are forecast to continue across the UK over the weekend as Storm Boelo moves eastwards, bringing the risk of travel disruption, power cuts and localised flooding.

The worst-affected areas are forecast to be across the northern half of the UK.

The Met Office has issued an amber wind warning for much of Scotland and parts of northern England from 21:00 BST on Saturday to 21:00 on Sunday.

In Northern Ireland, a second amber warning for wind runs across parts of the north of the region from 21:00 on Saturday to 10:00 on Sunday.

While the worst of Saturday's weather is forecast to be felt in areas covered by warnings, heavy and persistent rain is expected across larger parts of the UK.

Spray and surface water could make driving conditions hazardous, while further downpours increase the risk of localised flooding.

Strong winds are forecast to continue into Sunday, although rain should gradually ease across most of the country.

Sunny spells and blustery showers are expected elsewhere, while north-east Scotland is likely to see the most persistent rainfall.
