LESSON 10
Been there, done that

vox pop:
Basically, I just realised that a lot of my relationships were the same in that they were OK, bit of companionship, but not loads to talk about and not really very exciting. So one day I just woke up and I thought: "Been there done that got the T-shirt" - I need something new now.

vox pop:
My friends used to make me go to lots of raves, with dancing music I didn't like very much. So I just, you know, been there, I've done that, I've got the T-shirt, so no more raves for me.

Tony Thorne:
"Been there, done that" or the longer form "Been there, done that, got the T-shirt - it really means, you know, that you've been on holiday, or you've been to some sort of leisure complex, or to some sort of entertainment resort - and you've really done it, you've done everything and you don't want to go back there again. And it's a sort of, very smug, self-satisfied way of saying: "I'm a consumer, I've been everywhere, I've done everything". This seems to be typically British. It's often, nearly always in fact, used sarcastically, used ironically or self-mockingly but I think it's still important that it refers to a kind of attitude about travel and consuming, that everything is too easy to buy, to find, to use. It's a kind of weary tired consumer who's been everywhere, done everything.

OBJAŚNIENIA

been there, done that, got the T-shirt - wszędzie byłem, wszystko zrobiłem, koszulkę (na pamiątkę) kupiłem - wyrażenie to wzięło się z kontekstu urlopowego, ale zrobiło się obecnie bardziej wszechstronne; używamy go, kiedy chcemy powiedzieć, że czegoś, co robiliśmy w przeszłości, mamy już dosyć - i chcemy teraz czegoś nowego
