George Sand
Author Mary Kenny nominates the 19th-century French novelist, George Sand. With Francine Stock and Belinda Jack. From 2005.
The 19th century French novelist George Sand is perhaps best-known for her cross-dressing antics.
Plus a string of famous lovers that included composer Frederic Chopin.
But she also wrote 80 novels, 25 plays and thousands of letters, and it's this that led author Mary Kenny to nominate her life.
Francine Stock is the presenter with biographer Belinda Jack providing the expert advice.
Producer: Miles Warde
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in April 2005.
