Highlights from Hidden Notes

Elizabeth Alker is in Stroud to present a special edition of Unclassified recorded at the Gloucestershire town's annual two-day celebration of contemporary music, Hidden Notes. Like Unclassified, the festival prides itself on bringing together an eclectic bill of artists who are all, in their own ways, looking to re-imagine the boundaries of musical genres. In the show, we’ll hear highlights from three live sets: Maria W Horn combines analogue synthesisers with acoustic instruments and choral melodies to explore timbre, space and memory; Leon Michener performs on a "hacked clavichord" that makes use of found objects and Meccano; and afromerm mixes electronic elements with live instrumentation, spoken and sung vocalisations, and her self-built motion-reactive instrument, Juniper.
