Zakia's Listening Chair

Elizabeth Alker shares a playlist of late-night ambient music and genre-defying releases, and is joined by 6 Music host Zakia, who shares a track that transports her.

Elizabeth Alker welcomes 6 Music host, DJ and author Zakia Sewell into the Unclassified listening chair, where she shares an evocative track that transports her to another world.

After discovering the music of Pentangle at a gig with her dad as a teenager, Zakia's fascination for British folk culture and a curiosity about an alternative story of Britain was sparked - a journey she explores in her book Finding Albion. Her track choice takes us back to those formative encounters, evoking a mysterious, otherworldly corner of the British Isles. This exploration also runs through Zakia’s 6 Music show, Dream Time, where folk, jazz and ambient music intertwine to create an ethereal sonic landscape for listeners.

Elsewhere in the programme, Elizabeth shares music by emerging independent producers whose work plays with orchestral textures and classical form as well as the latest sounds from a new generation of contemporary composers who look to embrace the spirit of rock, pop and electronica.
