Niger’s constitutional court has confirmed Mohamed Bazoum as the winning candidate in the country’s presidential election. He succeeds Mahamadou Issoufou, who stepped down after serving two terms in office. Despite the peaceful handover of power, parts of the country are suffering from a wave of militant violence, with 22 killed this weekend alone.
