In the first programme in the series I try and untangle what a "sense of place" is. I remember very clearly, when the project was first announced about a year ago; it's fair to say there was some confusion amongst my colleagues as to what this phrase meant. But because of where I was brought up and live; my personal sense of place is very strong.
An aerial view of the Malverns
I’ve been fortunate enough to see some fantastic views in my life but none effect me like the Malvern’s.
Standing on top of these ancient Hills looking out across Herefordshire makes me feel more "me" than I feel anywhere else.
Whereas at first I thought I had a head start because of my strong affinity to this area, in time I realised that this was actually a hindrance.
It was hard for me to consider another type of "sense of place". Also although I knew where my Sense of Place was, I didn’t know why it was or why it was important.
