What was special about the BBC Wildlife Fund?
The BBC Wildlife Fund was different from any other because of the close collaboration between the BBC, as a major broadcaster, and those working within the wildlife conservation sector. With a direct link to broadcast facilities, it had massive reach and the power to convey information about active wildlife conservation efforts internationally and in the UK, far beyond the impact of individual grants.
The organisations funded were selected with care, through a robust assessment process, developed and overseen by a volunteer panel of specialists in the field. Projects were chosen not only for their own value, but also for their potential to stimulate other sources of income and potential for replication.
